Hike to the summit of Overlook Mountain with CMC board member Wendell George. We will walk along the old road to the summit, including a visit to the photogenic old hotel ruins, and hike to a four state view from the summit ledge. You’ll get a tour of the summit museum, formerly the observer’s cabin, and view the panorama of peaks and the Hudson River Valley from the fire tower. If we’re fortunate we may get a peek at one of Overlook’s most secretive residents, the shy Timber Rattlesnakes that call the mountain home.

Directions: Meet at the Mead Mountain trailhead at 8am. (N42 04.267 W74 07.363). Take CR 212 from Saugerties or Mt. Tremper, or take SR 28 and then CR 375 from Kingston, to Woodstock. From CR 212/Mill Hill Rd. turn north at the village square onto Rock City Rd. and continue across Glasco Turnpike onto Meads Mountain Rd.
Meads Mountain Road climbs 1,100ft so keep going until you reach a large parking area across from a monastery. If you start going downhill, you’ve just passed the trailhead. The parking lot fills up so the earlier you can arrive the easier it will be to find a parking spot.
