Hike the newest Catskill segment of the 567 mile long Finger Lakes Trail. This 5.4 mile hike will take you to the Rock Rift Fire Tower, overlooking the Cannonsville Reservoir. This is the last unrestored tower in the Catskills located on public land. It was built in 1934 by the CCC and closed in 1987. The tower cannot be climbed at this time but the trail to it takes you through glacial moraines and oak and cherry woods as it follows the old telephone line originally connected to the tower.
This hike will give you time for a leisurely lunch and get you back in time to participate in the Cannonsville Reservoir Litter Pickup.
