Mindful Observation Walk

Join us for a two-mile hike through a mixed hardwood and coniferous forest, featuring vernal pools, a seasonal stream, bluestone quarries, and rock walls. Along the way, we’ll observe geological features big and small, cultivating an appreciation for the history, beauty, and serenity of the Israel Wittman Sanctuary, one of Woodstock Land Conservancy’s public preserves.

Bring: snacks, drink as needed; proper clothing and shoes for a walk in the woods

Driving Directions:To reach the Israel Wittman Sanctuary from State Route 209 take the Sawkill Road exit (2.1 miles north on State Route 28 near NYS Thruway) toward the north and stay to the left on Sawkill Rd. Go 4.3 miles and turn right onto Zena Highwoods Road/ Church Road. Go 2.4 miles and turn right onto Old Sawmill Rd. Head southeast into the preserve, traveling through mixed hardwood and coniferous forest. Parking is on the left at the end of the road.
