Hike from the parking area at the entrance to the Woodland Valley State Campground to Giant Ledge, where there is a popular, fantastic view. Elevation gain over the 3.7 mile hike (one way) to the ledge is approximately 1,400 ft in the valley to 3,214 at the ledge. Please note that there are some rock scrambles along this trail.

Dogs allowed:  Yes, leashed only

Additional Information:  Dogs can be off-leash for 2/3 of the hike, when we are on the lesser-used trail, if the other participants are comfortable with the dogs being free. Giant Ledge, and the last section of trail leading to it, is crowded on weekends though, so a leash is required when we are near the ledge and lots of other people, and any time we encounter other hikers who may not be comfortable with free dogs.

Driving Directions: Woodland Valley Road is located off State Route 28, one half mile west of Phoenicia and marked with brown-and-white wayfinding signs. After turning on Woodland Valley Road and crossing the bridge, turn right, then stay to the left and follow Woodland Valley Road for 4.75 miles to the Woodland Valley Campground Day Use Lot (before the campground entrance) on the right.
