Woodland Valley Hike

Join us on an exploration of the upper reaches of the scenic and historic Woodland Valley. We will follow a dilapidated bark road along the stream which was a trail John Burroughs used many times. We’ll see evidence of Burroughs and the Bark Peelers of the 1800’s.
Event Duration: 4 miles, 5 hours
Level of Difficulty: Moderate-Difficult

Bring: Lunch/ snacks, water/ drink, proper clothing, sturdy hiking shoes, sun/ insect protection, hat, lighter, and flashlight.

Fee: Note, a parking fee of $6.00 may apply, per NYS Woodland Valley Campground.
Dogs allowed: No.
Additional Information: Though we will be following an old bark road, there are places where it is rocky and rough. Most of it is an easy grade and it includes one stream crossing. Proper hiking footwear is essential.

Driving Directions: Woodland Valley Road is located off State Route 28, one half mile west of Phoenicia and marked with brown-and-white wayfinding signs. After turning on Woodland Valley Road and crossing the bridge, turn right, then stay to the left and follow Woodland Valley Road for 4.75 miles to the Woodland Valley Campground Day Use Lot (before the campground entrance) on the right.
