Indigenous Peoples Day hike to Diamond Notch Falls and CSL

Join Overlook Mountain Center and DEC outdoor guide Glenn Kreisberg on this easy to moderate 3-mile round-trip hike to a waterfall and then on to a lean-to for lunch. We’ll start at 10am and finish by 2pm. Diamond Notch Falls will be the destination, with an off-trail detour through a spectacular Native American ceremonial stone landscape (CSL) in West Kill. If time permits, we will also visit the Halcott Mountain CSL site.

Event Duration: 3.5 miles, 4 hours

Level of Difficulty:  Moderate

Bring: Bring: lunch, water/ drink, wear sturdy footwear and dress for the forecast and a fall walk in the woods. Bring insect repellent, sunscreen as required.

Group size is limited to 12 so register early. PLEASE contact the leader and cancel if you are not able to come as others may want to take your place.

Additional Information:  Meet at trailhead at very end of Spruceton Valley Road. There is no cell phone signal, so try to be prompt. We will wait until 10:10 before departure.

Driving Directions:

From State Route 23A at Lexington, take State Route 42 south for 4.1 miles then turn left on County Hwy 6 (Spruceton Road) in West Kill and take this road 7 miles to the very end and we will meet at the DEC trailhead.

From State Route 28 at Shandaken, take State Route 42 north for 7.3 miles then turn right on County Hwy 6 (Spruceton Road) in West Kill and take this road 7 miles to the very end and we will meet at the DEC trailhead.
