CVC Fire Tower Opening Ceremony
October 3, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm
The Catskill Park has a new fire tower and it opens officially on Thursday, October 3rd at 11 AM. Located at the Catskills Visitor Center in Mt. Tremper, the 80′ tower is the tallest in the Catskills. It will afford visitors spectacular 360º views of the Esopus Valley and the surrounding mountains. Hikers will take an easy walk around the grounds, leading to the fire tower.
Set in the woods on the CVC’s site, the fire tower offers visitors an opportunity to learn first hand how fire towers played such a vitally important role in protecting America’s First Wilderness, the Catskill Park. A steward will be on hand to offer information and answer questions. The tower will be open for public access on a regular schedule after the opening date.
Be sure to plan a visit to the Catskills Visitor Center when you’re in the Catskills. It’s the go to place for area information.
