SUMMARY:Topo Map Reading for Beginners
DESCRIPTION:How are your topographic map reading skills? If the answer is “rusty” or “what is a topo map?”\, come sit at the map table with us and we’ll teach you the basics! Topo maps show the shape of the earth’s surface with contour lines. These lines represent changes in elevation so we can measure the height of mountains and the steepness of slopes – great info for planning a hike! Past participants have remarked that this old school skill is not only fun but super useful when our electronics fail.\nWe have room for 5 people so register early to ensure a seat at the table. \nEvent Duration: one hour \nLevel of Difficulty:  Easy \nLeader(s): Lisa Lyons \nRegistration required by 10/4  Use registration form below to register. \nPLEASE contact the leader and cancel if you are not able to come as others may want to take your place. \nGroup size is limited to 5 so register early. \nFee:  No  \n \nDogs allowed:  No \nAdditional information: Parking at 234 Main Street\, Hurleyville: There is a long off-street gravel parking lot immediately adjacent to the building (next to DeCant Wine & Spirits.) The O&W Rail Trail is easily accessed at the far end of this parking area\, leading through a beautiful wetland filled with wildlife.\nSeveral excellent restaurants are open for a snack or dinner on this date. From Exit 100\, take Route 52 east 2.7 miles and turn right on Hilldale Rd. (Sul. Co. Hwy 51). Take Hilldale for 2.1 miles and turn right on Francis Currey Blvd./ becomes Main St\, Hurleyville.
