SUMMARY:The History and Ecology of Rock Oak Preserve
DESCRIPTION:Join the Woodstock Land Conservancy for a guided hike at the newly opened Rock Oak Preserve with Miranda Javid\, who will share the story behind creating this trail and preserve. This 30-acre hardwood and coniferous forest is home to a canopy of red oak\, chestnut oak\, white pine\, and eastern hemlock\, and features a striking rock-cut formed during construction of the Ashokan Reservoir more than a century ago. As we explore the one-mile loop and spur trail\, we’ll pass glacial erratics and a scenic lookout\, while learning about the site’s layered history as well as the generous support from the Martin family and the New York State Conservation Partnership Program that made its protection possible. \nEvent Duration: 1 miles 1 hour \nLevel of Difficulty: Easy-Moderate \nLeader: Miranda Javid \nBring: Snacks\, drinks as needed\, tick protection\, proper clothing and hiking shoes. \nRegistration required by October 7.  Use registration form below to register. \nPLEASE contact the leader and cancel if you are not able to come as others may want to take your place. \nGroup size is limited to 10 so register early. \nDogs allowed:  Yes\, leashed only. \nQuestions about this event can be directed to:  miranda@woodstocklandconservancy.org \nDriving Directions: The Preserve is located at 230 Basin Road in West Hurley\, which is just over a mile from the junction of Basin Road and NYS Route 28 (at the traffic light near Stewarts Shops in West Hurley).
