Hike to Tremper Mountain

Join one of the Catskill Stewards for our final fire tower hike to the Tremper Mountain Fire Tower—one of the six towers featured in the 2025 Catskill Fire Tower Challenge, which is organized by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.
This is a challenging 7.6-mile round-trip hike with a steep, rocky ascent of about 1500 feet from the Jessop Road Trailhead. Along the way, enjoy the beauty of the forest, and at the summit take in stunning 360-degree views from the top cab of the fire tower.
Note: the hike to the tower is with the fire tower steward; hikers will return on their own.
Event Duration: 7.6 miles, 5-6 hours
Level of Difficulty: Difficult
Leader: Catskill Steward
Bring: Lunch/ snack, water/ drink, sunscreen, appropriate layers, rain gear, and footwear.

Driving Directions: From State Route 28 turn onto State Route 212 and proceed 4.1 miles to Willow and then turn left onto Van Wagner Road. Go a short distance then turn left onto Jessop Road. Proceed just over one mile and the trailhead will be on your left.
From Bearsville, take State Route 212 5.4 miles to Willow and turn right onto Van Wagner Road. Go a short distance then turn left onto Jessop Road. Proceed just over one mile and the trailhead will be on your left.
