SUMMARY:Hike to Giant Ledge and Panther Mountain
DESCRIPTION:Join this trail hike to the summit of Panther Mountain (3724′) via Giant Ledge. This is a 6.6-mile hike is rated moderate-difficult. We will move at a relaxing-to-moderate pace (about 1-1/2 mph moving speed)\, and the outing is expected to take five hours. There are great views from Giant Ledge and Panther. \nEvent Duration: 6.6 miles\, 5 hours \nLevel of Difficulty: Moderate-Difficult \nLeader: Marv Freedman \nBring: Water/ sports drink\, lunch\, snacks\, insect repellent\, hiking shoes\, and proper clothing. Hiking poles are also recommended. \nRegistration required by October 6.  Use registration form below to register. After registering\, please send your cell number to Marv Freedman at marvfreedman@gmail.com \nPLEASE contact the leader and cancel if you are not able to come as others may want to take your place. \nThe event is limited to 12 people and registration is required by October 6. \nDogs allowed:  Yes\, only with permission of event leader. \nAdditional Information:  Meeting place and time\, route details\, and required gear are subject to change based on weather forecast\, trail conditions\, etc. Updated information will be provided via email\, usually about two to four days before the hike. \nQuestions about this event can be directed to: marvfreedman@gmail.com \nDriving Directions: To reach the Giant Ledge Parking Area\, take State Route 28 to Big Indian and turn south on Ulster County Route 47. Take Route 47 7.3 miles to the sign for parking area on right (at the hairpin turn). \nFrom the south\, take State Route 55 just west of Grahamsville (at Curry) and turn north onto Sullivan County Highway 19 for 4.6 miles. Then turn left onto Sullivan County Highway 157. From this intersection\, the Giant Ledge Parking Area is 13.4 miles on the left.
