SUMMARY:Hike Platte Clove to Overlook Mountain Fire Tower
DESCRIPTION:Join the Catskill Center’s Catskill Steward\, Dan on a hike from Platte Clove to the Overlook Fire Tower. This roughly 8 mile out and back hike will start from the Platte Clove Preserve and will lead us along the Overlook trail\, with a stop at Codfish Point along the way\, and culminating in fantastic views from the fire tower. This hike covers a wide range of forest habitat and offers good opportunities for wildlife viewing\, including rattlesnakes. While not particularly steep\, the trail is uneven and very rocky\, making this a moderate to challenging hike. Departure will be at 9:30am. Once we reach the fire tower\, hikers are free to return on their own or wait for me to hike back at 2:30. \nEvent Duration: 8 miles\, 5 hours \nLevel of Difficulty: Moderate-Difficult \nLeader:  Dan Schroeder \nBring: Hikers should be prepared with good footwear\, sun and insect protection\, layers and rain gear\, and ample water/ drink\, lunch and snacks. \nRegistration required by October 4.  Use registration form below to register. \nPLEASE contact the leader and cancel if you are not able to come as others may want to take your place. \nGroup size is limited 12. \nDogs allowed:  Yes\, leashed only. \nAdditional Information:  Parking can be limited. \nQuestions about this event can be directed to:  Dschroeder@catskillcenter.org  or (845) 688-3369 \nDirections: From Exit 20 (Saugerties) NYS Thruway\, take State Route 212 west and continue for 2.3 miles. Turn right onto Blue Mountain Road and continue for 1.4 miles. Slight left to continue onto West Saugerties Road and continue all the way up the steep hill (4.3 miles). Turn right into the NY DEC marked parking lot. \nTo reach the trailhead from State Route 23A in Tannersville\, take South Main\, stay left on Spruce (becomes Platte Clove Rd.) and at 1.5 miles stay left on Platte Clove Road and continue another 5.2 miles and the trailhead/ parking area is on the left. (Go slow in Platte Clove. Do not miss turn!!) \nFrom Route 23A west\, take a right on Bloomer Road (.6 miles after the 23A/ 214 jnctn). Just after a mile stay to the right at the yield signs and onto Platte Clove Road (Co. Hwy. 16). Continue to the point that is 6.3 miles and you will see the Long Path parking area (meeting place) on your left. \nGPS coordinates: 42.13378\, -74.08201 \nAfter you press “Submit” below the registration form\, you will see a screen that says “Your registration has been submitted”.
