SUMMARY:Balsam Lake Mountain Forest Ecology Hike
DESCRIPTION:Join the Catskill Center’s Catskill Steward Aidan and enjoy the beautiful trail of Balsam Lake Mountain! We will be discussing forest ecology and observing the way the forests change with elevation. Balsam Lake Mountain is an excellent place to easily see the change in forests and at the top we will get an incredible view of the Catskills from the fire tower. We’ll meet at 10:00 am at the Mill Brook parking lot. \nEvent Duration: 5.9 miles\, 4.5 hours \nLevel of Difficulty:   Moderate \nLeader: Aidan Ferris \nBring: Bring lunch/ snacks\, water/ drink\, hiking shoes\,  proper layers\, rain gear\, hiking poles (optional). \nRegistration required October 6.  Use registration form below to register. \nPLEASE contact the leader and cancel if you are not able to come as others may want to take your place. \nGroup size is limited to 12. \nDogs allowed:  Yes\, leashed only. \nQuestions about this event can be directed to: Aferris@catskillcenter.org or (845) 688-3369 \nDriving Directions: From NYS Thruway Exit 19 Kingston\, turn right onto Route 28 and follow for 33 miles. Turn left at Highmount/ Belleayre Ski Center onto route 49a for 5 miles. Turn left onto Dry Brook Road for 1.25 miles\, then turn right onto Millbrook Road for 2.0 miles to the DEC parking area on the right. \nFrom Route 28 west\, continue 1.2 miles past Bridge Street\, Margaretville\, see sign for Dry Brook Ridge\, and turn right on Dry Brook Road. Continue on Dry Brook Road for six miles\, turn right onto Millbrook Road\, and continue about two miles until you see the sign for the parking area at the top of the hill. \nGPS Coordinates for Millbrook Road Parking Area: 42.07009\, -74.57412 \nAfter you press “Submit” below the registration form\, you will see a screen that says “Your registration has been submitted”.
