Rock Rift Fire Tower Loop Hike
October 6 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
By utilizing the Finger Lakes Trail, along with one of its spur (branch) trails, we will create a 7.0 mile long loop hike, beginning and ending in the parking lot found at the intersection of NY Rte 10 / NY Rte 268 along the Cannonsville Reservoir, midway between Deposit and Walton. The hike begins with an 1100 foot ascent to the Rock Rift Fire Tower, followed by a similar descent to where a spur trail returns us back to our cars along the shoreline of the Reservoir. Sorry, although there are future plans to renovate the Fire Tower, it is currently closed and as a result there is no view except for the beautiful woods we will be walking through ! The trail is well marked and worn, but is quite steep and rocky in places. Hike pace will be slow-to-moderate, no hikers left behind !
