Hike Mt. Pisgah in Greene County

October 8, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Hike to the site of the 1880’s Mt Pisgah summit hotel along the Long Path. Sights include the foundation of the old hotel, Cold Spring ( the dynamited water source of the hotel, and Inscribed Rock – carved initials and dates from summit visitors and guests. Inscribed Rock was recently rediscovered. There are old artifacts in the woods. We’ll see where the remnants of the horse racing track circled the summit. A carriage road was to the summit was constructed for the hotel. Thousands of visitors rode or drove carriages to the summit observatory. The carriage road has been lost to hikers and like inscribed rock, recently found.

Additional Information:  Although the outing has sights of historical interest, this is a hike, not a walking tour.  Participants should be prepared for hiking and climbing. It’s likely we’ll be doing some off trail travel.
If it’s a nice day there’s the possibility we might bushwhack Richmond Mt.,  but that would be if there were people interested in a wooded, viewless Cat100.  I could not do that and then change the hike to NO for bushwhack.  But I would like to follow the race track. That would be bushwhacking with some blowdown.
