Local Wild Birds | Saturday, October 1 | 3:00 PM **2016**

Local Wild Birds with John Haas and the Basha Kill Area Association – featuring John Haas signing his 3rd edition of “A Birding Guide To: Sullivan County, New York” . This program is part of the BIRDS AT HOME art exhibition at Morgan Outdoors, 46 Main Street, Livingston Manor, NY.

The Basha Kill Area Association will provide an informative display table spotlighting wetlands resource material. Free brochures, newsletters, color maps, beautiful North American butterfly handouts, as well as Sullivan County bird and butterfly check lists.

Kids will learn about wetland habitats while coloring wetland plants and animals. Then they can take their “little piece of nature” home!

John Haas, Basha Kill birder extraordinaire, can be found almost every day at the Bashakill Wildlife Management Area or elsewhere in the county, searching for more birds to add to his Sullivan County species list. His book is a now in its third printing.

The “BIRDS AT HOME” exhibition explores the relationship between people and birds – birds that are pets, farm animals, or visitors at a backyard bird feeder.

The group exhibition runs through October 10, 2016. Curated by Joanna Hartell, it features art work by Robyn Almquist, Elizabeth Ennis, Donna Greenthal, Joanna Hartell, Margaret Heffernan, Ann Higgins, Kate Hyden, James Karpowicz, Pat Sprout, Valerie Taggart and Naomi Teppich. It includes paintings, prints, photographs and sculptures by these artists focused specifically on the birds we see around our homes.

Humans often have a more direct connection with birds than other wild animals, because we love their songs, enjoy their aerobatics, and compulsively watch them. This show focuses on the relationship between humans and birds – at home, in the yard, and in our imaginations.
