North Point Loop Hike | Wednesday, October 7, 9 AM **2015**

This 10 mile loop hike will start & end at the parking area on Schutt Rd., in Haines Falls – right turn just before entering the North/South Lake Campground and provide numerous great views of the valley below and surrounding mountains. We’ll be taking the Escarpment (ES) blue trail along the ridge above Kaaterskill Clove, passing Layman’s Monument, Sunset Rock, Inspiration Point, Boulder Rock and the Catskill Mountain House site. Continuing on, the ES trail will pass Artists Rock. We’ll do a short out & back on the yellow trail to Lookout Rock & Sunset Rock. The back on the ES trail, passing Newman’s Ledge and on up to North Point, where there are fantastic views. Going back down from North Point, it’s a right turn onto the Mary’s Glen (MG) trail and another right turn onto the Rock Shelter (RS) trail to the parking area. There are a few ups & downs, accumulating in around 2000’ of elevation gain/loss. At a 1.5 MPH pace, plus breaks, the hike should be around 7 hours. No sign-ups by Oct. 4 or rain cancels the hike.

Bring: lunch, sunscreen, bug spray, something to drink, etc.

Driving Directions: From Rt. 23A in Hunter, turn onto North Lake Rd. Turn right onto Schutt Rd.. Parking area on right. If you are at the campground gate, you went too far – missed the right turn – go back and turn left.
